We recently purchased a 25 pound bag of play sand at Home Depot for $5, and we have had a blast creating all sorts of fun recipes for play. This mold-able sand dough has been one of Rosie and Jewel's favorites so far.
STICKY SAND: Mold it, build it, & CONTAIN IT! This sand acts wet, but it isn't! It sticks together well, but it does not stick to skin. My kids love this stuff, and I love the less-messy alternative to traditional play sand!
This recipe is made similar to our quicksand recipe only we used oil and flour in place of water and corn starch. Sticky sand is a perfect molding sand for sculpting and creating. Sticky sand also vacuums up easily, making it great for both indoor and outdoor use.
Sticky Sand Dough Recipe (affiliate links provided)
- 5 cups of play sand
- 3 cups of all purpose flour
- 1 cup of vegetable oil
Method
- Combine the above ingredients in a sensory bin or container and mix well. That's it! Easy and FUN!
Add buckets, shovels, sea shells, diggers, and other props, and kids will find all sorts of ways to play
Store sticky sand in a covered bin or container between play times, and it will last for a very long time. Ours lasted the whole Summer, and we still have it.
A Few Tips: You can find large bags of play sand at Home Depot for under $5. We have played with the same bag so many times, and we still have plenty of sand left. If you don't have a Home Depot near you, or you would like to purchase sand online you can find it for a good price here.
