Rainbow Sensory Play
Cooked noodles are great for sensory play. We buy ours in a large bag at the Dollar Tree and use each batch several times before tossing them, making this activity very frugal.
Materials
- Cooked pasta noodles
- Food coloring
- Bowls or containers
Prepare the pasta noodles as instructed on the box and then strain & rinse under cold water for several minutes. Coat the noodles in a touch of oil to prevent sticking. Divide the noodles into bowls (one bowl per desired color) and add several drops of food coloring to each bowl. Mix well and allow to dry for ten to fifteen minutes. The drying just prevents kids hands from getting badly stained from the wet food coloring. Place the noodles in a sensory bin or container, and play time can begin!
Rosie and Jewel admired the rainbow for a minute before mixing all the noodles together. Rosie informed mommy that she mixed up the rainbows order (whoopsie) but it really didn't matter; all the noodles were beautifully blended within seconds
Exploring the squiggly texture
Colorful squishy FUN!
There was lots of giggling as the girls played and explored
Add tongs, cups, bowls, and other kitchen gadgets to extend the fun. Rosie and Jewel especially loved "cooking" and "serving" each other the colorful noodles in their pretend restaurant.
Rosie and Jewel played for quite a while before we transformed this activity into another. Connect with Growing a Jeweled Rose on Pinterest & Facebook so you don't miss what we came up with or any of the other fun activities we share.
