Indoor Treasure Hunt
& Pirate PLAY
Set up for this activity was really simple. It always makes me smile when something so easy is such a big hit!
Indoor Treasure Hunt Materials (affiliate links provided)
- Black gravel
- Treasures- we used coins, gems, and necklaces
- A small boat
- A sensory bin or similar container
Instructions
Line the bottom of a sensory bin or large storage container with treasures. Then top the treasures with gravel. Add more treasures to the top and place a boat inside if desired. The boat is not necessary, but it really added to the pirate play theme.
The only other thing I did was set out Rosie and Jewel's pirate costumes and treasure chests. When Rosie and Jewel saw this set up they were so excited to jump in and play!
If your little one doesn't have a pirate costume and you would like to get them one you can find them online here. These Melissa & Doug costumes are very well made and have endured lots of play, making them a great investment if your kids are in the dress up stage.
Rosie and Jewel played and played, finding all the treasures and then burying them over & over again!
The wooden treasure chest pictured above can be found here. It comes with a bag full of treasures, a pirate flag, and even has a hidden storage area. Rosie and Jewel loved the first one we bought so much that we had to get another one so they would stop fighting over it.
This activity kept Rosie and Jewel engaged for a very long time. They were captivated and loved spending the morning pretending to be pirates.
