Ice Princess Sensory World

As we try to beat the heat of Summer while still enjoying the outdoors, we have been coming up with all sorts of fun ways to cool off!  We have explored with colored ice and water, enjoyed some Summer Sensory Play with shaving cream & ice paint,  and created a variety of different Sensory Pools.

Rosie has been getting really into Princesses lately, so the other day during her nap, I set up an Ice Princess Sensory World for her to splash around in when she woke.

Ice Princess Sensory World
To create the Ice Princess Sensory World, I filled our sand table with water.  Then I added purple food coloring and the rose essential oil that we use for our themed sensory baths.

Once the Princess pool was ready, I scurried our sensory materials and manipulatives and tossed in whatever I saw that fit the Princess theme.  I added gems, hearts, beads, and roses made of soap that I found at The Dollar Tree.  Then, to finish off this Princess Sensory World,  I added ice Castles!

To make the ice castles, I filled sand buckets shaped like castles with water and a little food coloring and popped them in the freezer overnight.  Then, when it was time to create the Ice World, I ran the buckets under warm water to help the ice castles easily slide out of the buckets!

Then, all we needed were Princesses!

When Rosie woke up, I told her to put on her favorite Princess attire so that she could greet all her Princess friends.  She was so excited by this after nap surprise!

She loved splashing around with the Princesses in the beautiful sensory water!

She had so much fun setting up different scenes with all the varying elements of this playtime, and loved creating conversations between her Princess friends.

The ice castles were a great way to keep cool on a really hot day too!
Rosie loved using them as boats for her Princesses in the purple pool of water.

This was such a fun playtime for Rosie!  Not only was this Ice Princess World a great way to explore our senses, but it facilitated in some fantastic pretend play as well!
