We have been having so much fun exploring with ice as we continue to find ways to stay cool this Summer.  Today, we got creative with some ice painting!

Materials

  • Washable paint
  • An ice cube tray
  • Optional: water and/or kool-aid

Method
To make our ice paints I filled an ice cube tray with 1/2 water and 1/2 paint and then popped it in the freezer.  After four hours our ice paint was frozen and ready for PLAY!

Ice painting is a great way to cool things off on a hot Summer day
Both girls loved handling the cold ice!

As the paint melted the colors swirled together to create beautiful works of art

Rosie loved using the ice paint to engage in a bit of body painting, which was another great way to stay cool

The only drawback to the ice painting was that the ice cubes looked so much like popsicles Jewel kept tasting them.

That was ok though.  I quickly came up with a solution.   I quickly whipped up some kool-aid ice paint so that Jewel could enjoy edible, baby safe sensory ice painting.  The colors were so vibrant and the girls got to explore with all of their senses. The kool-aid ice paint smelled AMAZING!!!!!

Kool-aid ice

To make kool-aid ice just add a bit of varying kool-aid powders to an ice tray and fill with water.  Stir and then place the tray in the freezer.  It will be ready in just a few hours; Easy peasy and SO FUN!

Here is Rosie and Jewel's finished kool-aid ice painting!  Aren't the colors so vibrant and beautiful?
